Dog Policies

Our Policies.

Our general re-homing area is Hull and East Riding. Occasionally, in exceptional circumstances we may extend those boundaries.

Dogs.

Many of our dogs come in through the stray system but many others come to us when their owners pass away, become ill, or are just no longer able to take care of them.

All the dogs have one thing in common, they are desperate for another chance in life. All our dogs are neutered, fully vaccinated and ID chipped. We have a minimum donation for our crossbreeds/puppies and the donation for pedigrees varies according to age and breed.

Anyone wishing to adopt one of our dogs will be required to fill in a form and will be veterinary checked and/or have a home visit. Only upon a favourable check can the chosen dog be reserved. The dog to be collected at a time agreeable to both parties.

We regard all our animals to be a responsibility for life! However should you have problems with your adopted dog we are always on hand for help and advice. Should your circumstances change and you are no longer able to keep your dog we insist that it be returned to us as we feel once we have taken responsibility for an animal it remains so for the rest of its life.

Please note, the viewing of our dogs is by appointment only.  Appointments can be made by telephone.

Adopt a Dog

Dog Adoption Fees.

When you adopt an animal from Hull Animal Welfare Trust it will be vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. When you buy an animal from a pet shop, breeder or perhaps through an advertisement in a paper, on top of the purchase price, you will then need to pay for the animal to be vaccinated, neutered and microchipped.

Our current adoption fees

  • Puppies up to 8 months old
  • £400+
  • X Breed dogs over 8 months
  • £300
  • Pedigree dogs
  • £350+

Typical costs for vaccinations

  • Dog
  • £55

Typical costs for neutering

  • Bitch (medium sized)
  • £270
  • Dog (medium sized)
  • £124

Typical cost of microchipping

  • £15

You will see that our adoption fees, in most cases, are less than the cost of neutering and vaccinating the animal. Our goal is to ensure that all the animals are adopted into suitable, loving homes, are protected from common viruses and neutered so that they do not go on to add to the problem of unwanted animals.

NB. If the animal you adopt is too young to be neutered / ID chipped, this will be arranged when it reaches a suitable age and will be funded by Hull Animal Welfare Trust.

We also worm and flea all of our dogs regularly and ensure they are up to date when they leave the centre to go to their new homes.
